PKP Intercity

In general

PKP Intercity is a part of PKP Group which operates long distance railway trains. The carrier runs about 350 trains every days in four categories: EIP (Ekspress InterCity Premium), EIC (Ekspress InterCity), IC (InterCity), TLK (Twoje Linie Kolejowe).


Historical overview

The company was founded 1st January 2001, after splitting PKP (Polish State Railways) on several smaller companies to meet European Union standards.

Ekspress InterCity Premium

New category was established in 2014 and it is operated by ED250 Pendolino trains, with they maximum speed of 200 km/h. These trains connect the biggest Polish cities like Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław and Gdańsk.

Future plans

Future plans include developing high speed railway system in Poland together with building Solidarity Transport Hub between Warsaw and Łódź.

Trams in Poznań

In general


Tram system in Poznań consist of 157,7 km of single tracks. The network is operated by MPK Poznań and controlled by ZTM. The system includes 18 daily lines, 1 night and 1 tourist line. The owner of the network is City of Poznań.

Historical overview

The network was first opened on 30 July 1880 and was electrified in 1898. There was rapid development of this network after the World War II and in years 1955 - 1980 a lot of new routes were built. The route of Poznan Fast Tram was opened in 1997 and in that route there aren't any crossings with streets.

In Poznań there are about 240 trams  and as many as 178 of them are low-floor. The city also has some historical trams.

Summary

Poznań has one of the most modern tram system in Poland. There are a lot of low-floor trams which are comfortable to elderly people. Moderntrans company owns by MPK Poznan, produces trams such as Moderus Gamma and sells its products to other Polish cities.
